white background red bulldog collar black ink letter in english from Mr. HdaeOctober 16, 2023 Dear Somerville Middle School Parents/Guardians & Students: Our school year has had a successful start and the students have displayed a great level of energy, effort, and excitement throughout the halls and their classes. That same excitement from the start of the school year has turned to a “buzz” about Halloween as it is fast approaching. Halloween is a time for students to share with classmates their creativity, style, and concept of the best Halloween attire. With that mindset, I am excited to announce that students will be permitted to wear a costume to school on October 31, 2023. Students will be encouraged to demonstrate what best represents their idea of Halloween through their design and costume. In preparation for the day, please be mindful of the following guidelines when your child chooses their costume: Any costume that has accessory items that could be considered or resemble a weapon of any kind are not to be brought to the school building. The following items can be considered “weapons” and should not be brought: guns, knives, swords, sharp objects, or any container that will spray a substance. Please make note that any other item that may not be listed can be requested to be removed at the discretion of the administration The identification of students as they enter and pass in the halls must remain a priority. Therefore, full face covering masks will not be permitted. When choosing a costume, students should consider our code of dress and all costumes should align with the student code of conduct. Our code of conduct for appropriate dress can be found on page 21 of the Parent/Student Handbook. In closing, we are excited to see how creative our students can get with the selection and design of their costume. Our goal is to create a day filled with Halloween spirit while remaining committed to our mission of sound instruction. Sincerely, Scott E. Hade
