website launch

The Valkyrie staff is thrilled to share this platform with the Somerville High School community. We’re excited to have you here and hope you’ll visit us often.

For those unfamiliar with our publication, the Valkyrie is a student-run newspaper, established in 1909, making it the second oldest club at Somerville High School. Our mission is to create a space where students can amplify their peers’ stories and share their own voices. We strive to both inform and entertain, remaining dedicated to producing honest, unbiased journalism while honoring the timeless skills of the craft.

Over the past century, the Valkyrie has evolved from a quarterly artistic journal in the 1920s to a full-scale printed newspaper from the 1960s through 2020. In 2020, we transitioned to a fully digital publication. Be sure to explore some of our favorite covers from the Valkyrie throughout the years.

As we embark on this new chapter, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the administrators who helped bring this website to life. We are especially grateful to the Branchburg Education Foundation and Somerville Education Foundation for their generous grants, which made this launch possible. Always on the lookout for talented writers, photographers, and contributors, we look forward to being a lasting source of news and entertainment for the Somerville High School community for years to come.
